Thanks to all who attended. this event was a big success!

On Saturday, November 4th, the PAS held a Basic Telescope setup clinic at Fontainebleau State Park. Skies were very clear. Approximately 15 people brought telescopes out for help and guidance in different aspects of setting up, aligning, and using their scopes. On hand were about 10 experienced PAS members, who worked with the different setups to assist and answer questions regarding telescope use.

Many of the people who came out for help expressed gratitude and appreciation for the time spent with each of them. They were all grateful that the PAS held the event and that they were able to finally get help in what previously had been a sometimes frustrating endeavor. All seemed confident that they would now be able to navigate the night sky a bit more than before the event.

Thanks to all the PAS members who lent their time and expertise to help others get much needed assistance with using a telescope.

Are you a beginner Astronomer who just does not know where to start? Would you like to learn how to set up and operate your telescope?

The PAS will hold a basic setup night on Saturday, November 4th. Location to be determined – Possible choices are NO Lakefront, Mandeville Lakefront, or SPMOS.

We will cover basics such as how to set up the tripod, how to balance the scope, aligning finder scope, Polar Alignment, Star alignment (1, 2, or 3 star), and locating 2-3 popular objects.

Attendees can bring their own scope, or watch as we set up a scope. We can answer basic questions on types of scopes. Whether you have a computerized mount, or just a basic point and look, we can assist with getting you started. We’ll cover Star Charts, star hopping, and setting circles as well.

We will begin about 90 minutes before dark, and end by finding 2-3 actual objects in the sky. You may continue after the session to view other available objects if so inclined.
