The PAS turnout at Pelican Park last night was greatly appreciated. It was nice to see our usual complement of enthusiastic visitors augmented by the youthful, newly formed astronomy club of Fontainbleau High School. This school club's first formal meeting is pending and they already have 25 members. We all recognize the need to bring young people into the hobby, and to hear the students delighted reactions to their view of Saturn through a 5" APO refractor was very encouraging.
There was a misunderstanding that resulted more field-lighting than we anticipated, yet the event was very successful and enjoyed by all.
Thank you again to all who turned out, and a special thanks to Jeff Best and John Martinez who assist regularly by operating telescopes (Jeff) and serving as "Solar System NASA Ambassador" (John, who on several occasions has manned a table next to the planetarium).
