Hi! My name is Jerrod. I’m new here! I’m a chemical engineer who is quite the hobbyist when I’m not buried in spreadsheets. I’ve recently taken up a strong interest in astronomy and amateur AP. I’m slowly learning the skies and saving up for my first telescope. Naturally, I’ve dove into endless threads, YouTube videos, and have changed my mind a thousand times… but I have finally landed on the quintessential 8” Dob. I’m saving up for an Apertura AD8 and a nice eyepiece or two.

For fun, I attached some pictures I’ve captured/processed this month. In all fairness, I’m working with a cheap tripod, my iPhone, and bortle 6 skies here on the MS Gulf Coast. I stacked about 500 x 2sec exposures and was able to capture the Orion Nebula. It was my first time seeing it, so that was super neat and small win for myself. I’ve got a long way to go, but I’m quite the polymath. I’m excited to learn more!
