I finally got to view and photograph the comet this evening from South Africa. I brought limited equipment, a Leica V-Lux 40 which is a fairly good point and shoot digital zoom. Perfect for travel and shooting photos of wild animals with it's 20x optical zoom and 40x when you add in the digital multiplier. Not so good for astro photography as it has a fair amount of noise. I did shoot at ISO 3200 for 15 seconds at f/3.3. The Milky Way can be seen and the orientation does look weird because of the sky orientation from down here at latitude 24 degrees, 16' 36" south.

Cannot post as I do not have the proper synch cords to attach this camera to my Surface Pro. Will have the shot available for viewing at the Deep South Star Gaze.

The comet on 10-19-24. Shot with a Vixen ED80 & an ASI 533MC.

Tonight's images of the comet.

David Diaz and I went to Lighthouse Road in Manchac to check out C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan–ATLAS. It showed up about 35 minutes after the sun went down. It was visible with binoculars but we couldn't see it naked eye.
